The Shaw Island Museum and Library offers year-round educational experiences rooted in local history, everyday life, and the natural world of Shaw Island. Through exhibits, programs, and community storytelling, we help visitors and residents understand the island’s past, present, and place within the San Juan Islands.
Our educational mission is to share Shaw Island’s stories in ways that are accessible, meaningful, and grounded in place. Through exhibits, seasonal programs, guided tours, and partnerships with the community, we explore the cultural, ecological, and social history that shapes island life. Learning here extends beyond the walls of the museum, inviting curiosity, conversation, and a deeper understanding of how people and place continue to influence one another.
We host a wide range of programs year-round, from author talks and film screenings to history lectures and live music. All events are open to the public, and most are free thanks to community support.
Come curious. Leave inspired.
The Shaw Island Library and Historical Society is pleased to offer its members complimentary access to selected events from this season’s Seattle Arts & Lectures (SAL) series. Members can stream these events on their own internet-connected devices at no cost.
SAL is hosting a wide range of conversations and author events through May. Full program details are available on the SAL website (lectures.org). Below is the list of events we will make available to Shaw members. Many feature interviews, readings, and discussions with notable authors. (SAL also provides additional free events that anyone may view independently.)
To participate, members will receive an email notice about one week before each event. If you would like to watch, reply to that message within two or three days. On the morning of the event, we will receive the viewing instructions and password from SAL and will forward them to all members who requested access.
